IPL 2018 Purple Cap/Most Wickets
Here we will update the complete list of IPL 2018 most wickets takers bowlers from April 7 onwards.
We imagine IPL as batsmen’s game and to an extent it is. The real thrill comes in watching the ball sail over for fours and sixes. For the first couple of years since the inception of IPL, the league was considered a bowlers graveyard. Bowlers were in the team to complete the quota of 20 overs and just to avoid battering. But with the evolution of the game, the scenario changed bowlers transformed themselves into match winners and real assets. The pioneers of which were Lasith Malinga and Sunil Narine, such has been the evolution that in matches two leg spinners work in tandem in a T20 match.
Here is a look at the top bowlers in the league who have picked most wickets so far in the IPL.
Top 5 Leading Wicket Takers in IPL
5. Dwayne Bravo
The man from the Caribbean has transformed himself like no other player in T20. Initially considered a batting allrounder, Bravo transformed himself into one of the most lethal death bowlers in T20 cricket. His variations of slower bowls have kept batsmen on their toes and so has been his devastation that he has won the purple cap twice. He his 5th on the list with 122 wickets in 106 matches.
4. Piyush Chawla
One man on the list that even surprises me. He has never set the stage on fire and is understandably one bowler that goes under the radar. The leggie from UP has picked a total of 26 wickets in 129 matches so far with best figures of 4/17 for his two IPL teams KKR and KXIP.
3. Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh has been a constant for the Mumbai Indians from its inception except now that he is transferred to CSK. Bhajji over the years transferred from the wicket-taking bowler to more of a defensive bowler. Having an economy of less than 7 on flat Indian pitches is one astounding effort. He has also picked a total of 127 wickets in the IPL in 136 matches.
2. Amit Mishra
Another spinner on the list, Mishra has been spinning the web around batsmen in IPL. Though much more effective than Chawla, Mishra too has been underrated. The sole bowler to clinch three hat-tricks, Mishra has in total picked 134 wickets in the IPL so far in 126 matches.
1. Lashith Malinga
The slinga Malinga is one bowler that transformed bowling in T20 cricket. Slinging action with deadly yorkers, Malinga set a mark in the IPL. Over his 8 seasons with MI, he has picked up a whopping 154 wickets so far in just 110 matches.
